- Professional experience as a defense, military operations or conflict analyst, or as a national-security researcher
- A background in defense research, capability assessment, conflict analysis or operational planning
- A strong grasp of military operations and defense decision-making
- Clear, structured writing about complex scenarios
Helpful, not required
- Time spent at a defense or government body, a research institute or think tank, or an international organization
- Knowledge of international humanitarian law, rules of engagement or civilian protection
