01 · The role

What you would do

  • Listen to field recordings of 30 to 90 seconds and fill in structured notes on instruments, tempo, key, timed background sounds and the scene
  • Compare recordings of the same song made in different places and judge what changed between them
  • Later on, review AI models' descriptions of clips and flag what is right, wrong or made up, explaining briefly
  • Join a paid onboarding and calibration session and a brief weekly sync

02 · Requirements

What they ask for

  • Three or more years of practical work in music or audio
  • An ear that can separate individual instruments in a crowded, noisy field recording, not just a clean studio mix
  • The ability to estimate tempo to within a few BPM and identify the key; relative pitch with a reference tone is enough
  • Clear written English for short, evidence-based notes, and patience for detailed, repetitive annotation in a web tool
  • Good headphones, a quiet place to work, reliable internet and 20–25 hours a week

Helpful, not required

  • Work as a performing or session musician, producer or mixing engineer
  • Experience teaching music or ear training, or directing a band or choir
  • Work as a location sound recordist, sound designer, foley artist or podcast or documentary audio editor
  • Analytical listening
  • Music theory
  • Audio annotation
  • Tempo and key
  • Field recordings

Who can apply

Remote, and the listing sets no country limit. None of Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa or Egypt is on micro1's list of countries it cannot hire from.

About this listing

We last confirmed this opening on Nov 1, 2026, and it was posted on Oct 31, 2026. Rates and hours come from the listing unless the note beside the rate says otherwise. Where the listing names no countries, the Africa status is our reading of it and of what is known of micro1's country rules, set out on its profile, and never marks a role more open than they show. The listing itself has the final word.
